Legal Assistance
Do you need legal help? The Legal Aid Society of Mid- New York provides the following services to anyone 60 or older: Legal advice, Legal counseling, Preparation of Documents, Court Representation for those who qualify.
Some of the legal problems, which Legal Aid assists with, include:
- Landlord/Tenant matters
- Social Security
- Denial of Benefits – Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, SSI
- Durable Power of Attorney
- Wills, Health Care Proxy and many other matters
Legal services that are not covered:
- No money generating case such as suing, divorce/legal separations, etc
- No Estate Planning
- No Bankruptcy’s
There is no charge for the service; however, donations are gladly accepted. All are welcome to request service and no one will be denied service for inability to contribute. The Office for the Aging, a non-profit agency, reimburses the Legal Aid Society at a per hour rate for attorney’s services.
